About the Founder:
WhatAreKidsSaying.com (WAKS) was founded by University of Michigan graduate and former NFL linebacker, ian gold.
"In 2006, after returning from a journey around the world, I asked myself a question, 'During my travels, what was the most consistent thing that I noticed?' I thought in depth for a moment, and my thoughts went to the children I met, over and over. Being reminded by photographs and video footage that I had taken of kids and teenagers in Fiji, Egypt, Australia, where it seemed as if the children, with their arms and hands waving in the air and bright smiles on their faces , were all seeking to be noticed. I realized then that the most consistent thing I noticed during my travels around the world, was the innocence and profoundly real nature that all children possess..."
In 2008, Gold walked away from the NFL, and founded WhatAreKidsSaying.com. Although there are many reasons for his creating the website, there is none greater than his desire to educate a generation of young people. Remembering how creative writing was an effective outlet for expression during his own adolescence, Ian was determined to show kids and teens how creative writing can change their own lives and positively impact their education and essentially, their future.
In an effort to further inspire young people and encourage them to share what lies in their hearts and minds, Ian also writes a blog on WAKS. Through his own words, Gold is sharing glimpses of his own heart and mind with young people around the world. A link to "Ian's Blog" is located on the homepage.

The Time Capsule: A Place to Call Your Own
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an archeologist, traveling the world and digging up precious artifacts from another time?
At WhatAreKidsSaying.com, using your time capsule, you can become your own archaeologist and preserve the ideas and items you cherish most. Then, you can dig your personal time capsule later and discover what was important to you at different points in your life. Some of our younger scribes are only in elementary school or freshmen in high school. In addition to being able to earn thousands of Gold Nuggets for writing that will one day pay for their college education, our scribes can also look back on their own growth as a writer and a person by storing their work in their time capsule to review years later.
Showcase Your Skills in Writing Contests
Each week we feature writing contests so kids and teens like you can submit your poetry, short stories, true stories, lyrics, and quotes, to give you the chance to share and compare your writing with others and have the opportunity to win the WhatAreKidsSaying.com Spotlight for the Week award.
